    School Counselors will provide counseling services to students in both individual and/or group sessions as dictated by the IEP, and as necessitated within the specific school/programming environment. 



    • Provide informal and formal assessments
    • Provide families with contact information regarding community resources and support networks
    • Maintain appropriate school records and provide written reports and communication logs
    • Actively participate in all aspects of the school day
    • Participate in the IEP process as required
    • Provide updates for IEP Counseling goals and objectives
    • Attend IEP meetings of the students on your caseload
    • Provide social skills lessons in classrooms at teachers request
    • Participate in student threat assessment and crisis planning/resolution
    • Facilitate process for students requiring hospitalization as a result of mental health crisis at school
    • Support students, family, and/or program personnel to ensure effective resolution of mental health crises or hospitalization process during normal programming and extended hours as necessary
    • Supporting classroom instruction and engagement
    • Implementation of verbal and physical components of the Program’s prescribed methodologies for verbal de-escalation and/or physical management, when necessary
    • Supervise Clinical Interns, as necessary
    • Other duties as assigned by the Director 



    • Masters Degree in Social Work, Counseling, or Child/Family Therapy from an accredited University
    • Licensure must match state regulatory or credentialing guidelines to provide services in schools
    • In-depth knowledge of special education programs, with commensurate experience working with individuals with exceptional needs
    • Possession of a valid US State driver’s license; willing to travel locally using own transportation (mileage reimbursed) or school van, and willing to travel within the region as required
    • Ability to work extended and/or evening hours on occasion or as needed



    • An understanding of the IEP process
    • Leadership skills in working with individuals and groups (i.e. initiating individual or group discussion, listening, clarifying and facilitating interactions and sharing of ideas);
    • Ability to demonstrate effective liaison relationships with schools, and agencies.
    • Skills in conducting effective meetings and conferences (including the resolution of disagreements);
    • Ability to interpret data related to student goals for appropriate interventions



    • Light lifting, walking, climbing stairs.
    • Be able to stand for long periods of time.
    • Ability to use physical restraints.
    • Most programs are in school settings.
