    Regional Instructional Specialist:  Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD)/ Intellectual Disabilities (ID)

     

    Regional Instructional Specialist (RIS):

     

    The Regional Instructional Specialist (RIS) for the ASD/ID Model serves three primary roles as a member of the Catapult Schools ACI Team* (Assessment, Curriculum, & Instruction).  The goal of the Catapult Schools ACI Team is to create MODEL programs company-wide based on the latest research-based “best practices” for assessment, curriculum, and instruction.  The Regional Instructional Specialist reports directly to the Senior Vice-President Academics. Regional Vice-Presidents and Regional Directors work in coordination with the RIS to determine ACI priorities for individual schools.   

    Responsibilities

    Specific roles for the ASD/ID RIS include:

     

    1. Develop processes, procedures, and technical assistance tools to be used school-wide consistent with research-based best practices for students with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and Intellectual Disabilities (ID).
    2. Collaborate with identified advisory teams (consisting of expert staff in the field of ASD and ID) in the development of the model and process tools (i.e. manual, forms, etc.).
    3. Support individual schools in the development of model programs through expert professional development and collaboration with RIS regionally. 

     

    In addition to acting in this capacity, the Regional Instructional Specialist will conduct regular on-site school visits to provide guidance on a variety of resources and ensure quality control and implementation. 

     

    Other Responsibilities:

    1. Participate in the development and implementation of regional professional development,
    2. Attend periodic meetings for Regional Instructional Specialists.
    3. Assist schools in analyzing all assessment data and, subsequently, collaborate with school directors with to make instructional decisions based on data.
    4. Collaborate with Senior Vice-President Academics, Director of Web Technology & School Support, and Director of Quality Assurance, as needed, to make data-based decisions and select appropriate materials. 
    5. Utilize Educational Quality Index (EQI) data to identify ACI priorities for each school.

    Qualifications

    Applicants must be certified in Special Education.  Experience working with students with ASD/ID is required.  Additional training and certification in methods of Applied Behavioral Analysis is preferred.  Applicants must be willing to travel on a regular basis across the country to work with staff in specific schools.  Experience providing PD for teachers on appropriate strategies and interventions is also preferred for this position.
