  • Overview

    • To supply a variety of consultative, counseling and guidance-related services to assigned nonpublic elementary schools in conjunction with other Catapult Learning services

    Responsibilities

    Priorities

     

    • To provide intake, screening assessments, and case management services for referred children who are experiencing either learning or adjustment problems.
    • To provide direct counseling, guidance and consultative services for referred students of schools serviced by the Catapult Learning counselor.

     

     

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

     

    • To establish a regular weekly itinerary among the schools served by the counselor in conjunction with the Coordinator of Counseling and Psychological Services and the school principal.
    • To establish a referral procedure with the building principal.
    • To gather enough information on children referred for learning or adjustment problems to determine a course of action needed either to further clarify the problem or to resolve the problem.
    • Be familiar with techniques of observation and interview to clarify the nature of the behavioral or emotional problems when needed.
    • Perform basic screening battery as provided by the Catapult Learning supervisor to screen for learning deficits.
    • To refer to the psychologist when screening and assessment activities prove inconclusive or show the existence of severe deficits.
    • To provide individual counseling for students when a clear objective that is pertinent to the child’s performance in school is identified.
    • Provide group guidance around specific goals when it is determined in conjunction with the building principal that this approach is in concert with the needs of the students and the wishes of the school.
    • Provide verbal feedback to school personnel, parents, and others with a legitimate educational interest as needed on all learning screenings and in-process counseling activities.
    • Provide written reports to parties with an appropriate educational interest at the completion of assessment, screening, counseling and consultation activities.
    • Act as consultant to teachers and parents of referred students providing them information and assistance to help them improve the educational, behavioral, and emotional adjustment of children in question.
    • When appropriate to make referrals to community agencies and private practitioners for services not available within the domain of the schools.
    • To maintain a sensitivity to the unique situation of the non-public schools and have an awareness that Catapult Learning is charged with the responsibility of augmenting existing and ongoing curriculum.
    • To maintain a respect for all rules, laws, and ethical standards pertaining to the delivery of counseling services.
    • To be knowledgeable concerning all rules and procedures as established by Catapult Learning and the individual schools.
    • To conduct or assist in conducting occasional training sessions for staff and allied professionals as requested by Catapult Learning.
    • To participate in faculty and parent/faculty meetings at schools for explaining the Catapult Learning counseling program.
    • To keep abreast of all current changes and trends in the field of school counseling.
    • To make use, as required, of all available supervisory personnel when there is concern as to the clinical or educational management of a case or the policies and procedures of Catapult Learning and the individual school.

     

     

     

    Qualifications

    EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
    State certificate in elementary or middle school counseling.

    A minimum of two years’ experience with elementary or middle school-age students in counseling or a related capacity preferred.


    PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT/WORKING CONDITIONS:

    Light lifting, walking, climbing stairs. Most programs are in school settings.
