  • Overview

    Payroll Tax Analyst is responsible for all payroll tax activities, including compliance with local, state and federal regulations, the reconciliation and accuracy of all payroll tax withholdings, deposits and filings with Ultimate Tax Service, responding timely and accurately to federal and state agency notices and inquiries, and conducting periodic and quarterly audits to ensure accurate year-end processing of employee W2’s.

    Responsibilities

    Job Functions:

    • Reconcile payroll tax withholdings to UltiPro reports/deposits (periodic, quarterly and annual basis)
    • Manage entire year-end processing, including periodic audits to ensure timely and accurate processing of employee W2’s; process W2c’s and quarterly amendments as needed.
    • Perform audits on all payroll wages to ensure proper classification of “taxable” vs. “non-taxable wages.
    • Research federal and state tax legislation on all tax related items to ensure the accurate application of tax regulations to all payments, including but not limited to, fringe benefits, executive compensation, non-resident aliens, independent contractors.
    • Run queries and audit payroll staff entries of employee tax forms and paycheck processing to ensure accurate tax withholdings.
    • Perform system testing of payroll tax data/configuration in UltiPro for regular tax updates and system upgrades/implementations.
    • Act as liaison between payroll and Accounting to reconcile g/l variances and outstanding items

    Qualifications

    Skills required:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or equivalent experience.
    • 2-5 years general accounting or payroll tax experience
    • 2-5 years’ experience researching and interpreting federal and state tax regulations
    • Excellent math skills coupled with strong analytic and problem-solving skills
    • Strong working knowledge of MS applications, such as excel (pivot tables, vlookup and formulas, spreadsheets); word (mail merge, tables), outlook (email, calendars, tasks.
