Provides instructional services to students with learning needs, diagnoses learning skill deficits and delivers prescribed instructional delivery methods as determined by Catapult Learning; consults with school personnel to coordinate efforts in providing services to students; communicates and conferences with parents providing information on student progress.


Duties & Responsibilities: (Any one position may not include all of the listed duties, nor do all of the listed examples include all tasks which may be found in positions within this classification.)

  • Delivers designated curriculum and skill-appropriate supplemental materials;
  • Develops and maintains individualized skill-appropriate lesson plans;
  • Evaluates students through diagnostic programs and assessments, classwork; test scores, and/or other acceptable methods as required by Catapult, local, state, and/or federal agencies;
  • Participates in the Individual Education Plan (IEP) process as required;
  • Provides Social Skills lessons in the classroom setting;
  • Facilitates the implementation of IEP program components, including providing progress monitoring of IEP goals and objectives;
  • Participates in multi-disciplinary meetings involving cooperation with other pupil personnel workers, school personnel, parents and community agencies;
  • Participates as a resource person in in-service training and planning;
  • Ensures supervision of students at all times, including escorting students safely to and from classrooms, lunchrooms, and/or restrooms;
  • Establishes and maintains student records, documentation and files and provides written reports and communications as required by Catapult, local, state, and/or federal agencies;
  • Provides consultation to parents regarding the needs of their children;
  • Works in collaboration with the school team;
  • Other duties as assigned by the Team Leader or Director.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • An understanding of the IEP process; including current IDEA laws and state and local regulations;
  • Ability to interpret data related to student goals for appropriate interventions;
  • Knowledge of current state law/regulations regarding high school proficiency standards;
  • Knowledge and competency of understanding credit and graduation requirements;
  • Leadership skills in working with individuals and groups (i.e. initiating individual or group discussion, listening, clarifying and facilitating interactions and sharing of ideas);
  • Ability to counsel students, parents, staff and lay persons individually and in groups;
  • Skills in conducting effective meetings and conferences (including the resolution of disagreements);
  • Skills in socio-environmental analysis and diagnosis of students with behaviors;
  • Skills in communicating concepts and information accurately orally or in writing, including formal statistical reports;
  • Ability to demonstrate effective liaison relationships with parents, schools, and agencies;
  • Ability to aid in program development.

    Education, Training and Experience

    • Possession of a valid Pennsylvania teaching certificate in Special Education and/or specific content area preferred;
    • Evidence of in-depth knowledge of special education and experience working with individuals with exceptional needs.
